This unlimited travel pass is sold to tourists who enter Japan on a Short-term Stay visa.
A Northern Kyushu Area Pass that allows you to travel on and north of the Hohi Main Line (Kumamoto to Oita) and a Kyushu-wide All Kyushu Area Pass are both available for sale.

Kyushu (九州) is the third largest island and most south-westerly of Japan four main islands (Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu) .There are seven prefectures located there: Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, Nagasaki, Oita, and Saga. Kyushu’s must visit spots are Mt.Aso, Kumamoto Castle, and Kyushu is blessed with many hot springs such as Beppu Onsen, Yufuin Onsen, Kurokawa Onsen, Kirishima Onsen, Ureshino Onsen, and Takeo Onsen. JR Kyushu offer 3 types of Rail pass which is All Area Kyushu Pass, Northern Kyushu Pass and Southern Kyushu Pass. The All Kyushu Area pass is valid on all JR Kyushu lines. This pass unlimited train travel on 3, or 5 consecutive days.

ELIGIBILITY TO PURCHASE

  1. Travelers must hold a passport issued by a country other than Japan.
  2. Travelers must reside outside Japan and are visiting Japan on a short-stay visa.
  3. If you are a Japanese citizen, you can use a Southern Kyushu Area Pass, in case of meeting the following 3 conditions:
    • You have a permanent resident status in a foreign country
    • You hold an airline ticket to depart Japan within 3 months; and
    • You have purchased a Voucher for Southern Kyushu Area Pass overseas
  • (1) and (2), or just (3) must be satisfied.
  • Sales for Japanese citizens will end on 31st March 2017. (Exchange period for a voucher purchased overseas is until June 30th, 2017).
    From 1st April 2017, only travelers, who satisfy both condition (1) and (2), are eligible to purchase and use the Southern Kyushu Area Pass.

Exchange

  • Please exchange your exchange voucher for an All Area Kyushu Pass within three months of the date you purchase the exchange voucher. (For example, if you bought the exchange voucher on April 15, it can be exchanged up until July 14.)
  • When you exchange your voucher, please decide upon the date on which you wish to begin using the pass. You can start using the pass on any date within one month of the date on which you exchange your voucher.
  • It is not possible to change the starting date once this has been listed on the pass.
  • A passport is required when exchanging for the pass.
    To exchange a rail pass, please check the following websites for information about stations where the pass can be exchanged, tickets counters and opening hours.

Validity

  • Seat reservations can only be made once a pass has been collected in Japan.
  • With the Pass, no additional fee is required when reserving seats.
  • In order to travel in first class (Green cars) you will have to pay additional fees. Non-reserved Ordinary class cars can be accessed freely.
  • To access the platforms, show your Pass to the JR Kyushu staff located at the gate to the platform.
  • To reserve a seat, ask the JR Kyushu staff at the the ticket office.
  • It is a personal Pass. Please always carry your passport when using the Pass as station and train staff may check it.

Refund

  • Refunds on exchange vouchers:
  • Refunds may be paid on exchange vouchers within one year of the date of issue, but only by the issuing vendor. The refund amount is the sales price minus the prescribed administration fee and postages fees.

  • Refunds on passes:
  • If a pass remains valid, a refund on the pass can be picked up at the prescribed pass exchange locations, provided that it is still prior to the starting date of the pass.
    The refund amount will be the sales price in Hong Kong dollers, minus 10% plus HKD 100 per ticket.
    Please be aware that no refunds whatsoever will be made once the valid period of the pass has commenced.

  • No reissuing:
  • Exchange vouchers or passes will not be reissued under any circumstances, including loss, theft or damage, so please look after them carefully.

Remarks

  • The above table shows the prices for a Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass exchange voucher. The real price in local currency is calculated using the BSR (bankers selling rate) at the time the exchange voucher is issued. Please understand that the exchange rate when you purchase the exchange voucher may be different from the exchange rate at the time you visit Japan. The price in local currency, real exchange rate, and date of issue of the exchange voucher are listed on the face of the exchange voucher. Children’s prices are applied for children aged between 6 and 11 (inclusive) on the date of issue of the exchange voucher. (Prices may change. NORTHERN KYUSHU AREA PASS

Rail Pass Validity

  • The North Kyushu pass is valid on all JR Kyushu lines above the line formed by Kumamoto, Aso and Bungo Taketa.
  • The pass is not valid on the Sanyo Shinkansen, sleeper trains or JR Kyushu buses.
  • Kyushu Shinkansen rides with a Northern Kyushu Area Pass are limited to the portion between Hakata and Kumamoto.

EXCHANGE

  • The voucher must be exchanged within a 3-month period from the date of issue.
  • To exchange the voucher for the Pass you will need your passport.
  • The start date of the Pass can no longer be changed once the pass has been exchanged.

    • Saga Station Travel Service Center, weekdays from 10AM to 7PM, weekends until 5PM

SEAT BOOKING

  • Seat reservations in standard cars can be made up to 10 times per person for 3-day passes and up to 16 times per person for 5-day passes.
    * Charges must be paid for reserved seat tickets over the limit.

SOUTHERN KYUSHU AREA PASS

3 DAYS

JR Southern Kyushu Area Pass includes shinkansen rides betweeen Kumamoto and Kagoshima-chuo (Mizuho, Sakura, Tsubame), local trains and limited express trains within the designated covered area.

ELIGIBILITY TO PURCHASE

  1. Travelers must hold a passport issued by a country other than Japan.
  2. Travelers must reside outside Japan and are visiting Japan on a short-stay visa.
  3. If you are a Japanese citizen, you can use a Southern Kyushu Area Pass, in case of meeting the following 3 conditions:
    • You have a permanent resident status in a foreign country
    • You hold an airline ticket to depart Japan within 3 months; and
    • You have purchased a Voucher for Southern Kyushu Area Pass overseas
  • (1) and (2), or just (3) must be satisfied.
  • Sales for Japanese citizens will end on 31st March 2017. (Exchange period for a voucher purchased overseas is until June 30th, 2017).
    From 1st April 2017, only travelers, who satisfy both condition (1) and (2), are eligible to purchase and use the Southern Kyushu Area Pass.

Rail Pass Validity

    The applicable lines of JR Southern Kyushu Pass:

  • Reserved and non-reserved seats for all shinkansen (Mizuho, Sakura, Tsubame) within the designated covered area. Shinkansen rides are limited to the portion between Kumamoto and Kagoshima-chuo.
  • Reserved and non-reserved seats for all limited express trains within the designated covered area.
  • Local trains within the designated covered area.
  • Additional charge is required when using Green Car (superior class).
  • The pass cannot be used for JR Kyushu buses, B&S Miyazaki buses, the Cruise Train Seven stars in Kyushu and the ARU RESSHA (Sweet Train).
  • The pass is valid only within the JR Kyushu service area even though there maybe some lines in Kyushu operated by other companies.
  • Unavailability of seating due to full occupancy shall not be subject to refunds.

EXCHANGE

  • The activation date of the pass, once the pass has been obtained, can no longer be changed.
  • The voucher is valid for 3 months after purchase.
  • You must present your passport in order to exchange a voucher for a pass.
  • Ticket offices where travelers are able to exchange their voucher:
    • Station: Kagoshima-chuo, Miyazaki, Miyazaki airport and Kumamoto
    • JR Kyushu Travel: Kagoshima

SEAT BOOKING

  • Seat reservations in standard cars can be made up to 10 times per person for 3-day passes and up to 16 times per person for 5-day passes.
  • Additional charges apply for reserved seat tickets over the limit.
  • Seat reservations can only be made upon arrival in Japan
  • Seat reservations can be made at any JR station or travel center in Kyushu, Japan
  • It is a personal pass. Please always carry your passport when using the Pass as station and train staff may check it.

  • Refunds on exchange vouchers:
  • Refunds may be paid on exchange vouchers within one year of the date of issue, but only by the issuing vendor. The refund amount is the sales price minus the prescribed administration fee and postages fees.

  • Within the validity period of the pass ticket described, unused pass ticket , can return back to the selling place.
    The refund amount will be the sales price in Hong Kong dollers, minus 10% plus HKD 100 per ticket.
