FLEXIBLE 5 DAYS

The JR East Pass (Tohoku Area) is a special discounted pass available only to foreign travelers visiting Japan under the entry status of “Temporary visitor”. Visitors can use this pass to travel from Ominato, Hokkaido to as far as Shimoda in Izu Peninsula. Thanks to the unlimited access to JR East lines, you can purchase the pass and it’s valid on five calendar days of your choice within a 14-day period. This pass can be used on the Limited Express trains, including “SPACIA Kinugawa” and “SPACIA Nikko” which operate between the JR East lines and Tobu Railway Lines. You don’t have to determine your 5 travel dates at the time of purchase or exchange. For example, if you purchase your pass or get it by exchange on April 1, you can show the pass at a station on any five days between April 1 and April 14 and it will be stamped as valid for use on that day, and you don’t have to worry about language barriers.

ELIGIBILITY TO PURCHASE

  • 1. Foreign tourists who are visiting Japan from overseas for the purposes of tourism on a “Short-Term Stay” visa (holders of foreign passports). “Short-Term Stay” means a stay of 90 days or less for the purposes of tourism, visiting friends or family, during which time no paid activities shall be carried out.
    Main types of “Short-Term Stay” visa issued in mainland China: “Single-entry visas for Individual Tourists”; “Multiple-entry visas for individual tourists visiting Tohoku Region (Iwate, Fukushima, Miyagi)”; and “Multiple-entry visas for individuals with a substantially high level of income”
    *「JR East Pass (Tohoku Area)」 is not sold to Japanese nationals.

EXCHANGE

  • Please exchange your exchange voucher for a 「JR East Pass (Tohoku Area)」 within three months of the date you purchase the exchange voucher. If you fail to make the exchange within these three months then you will not be able to receive your pass. (For example, if you bought the exchange voucher on April 15, it can be exchanged up until July 14.)
  • The JR East Pass (Tohoku Area) is only available to non-Japanese passport holders with a short-term visa to stay in Japan for no longer than 90 days. Japanese passport holders can NOT use this pass.
  • To exchange the voucher for the Pass you will need your passport.
  • The start date of the Pass can no longer be changed once the voucher has been exchanged.

VALIDITY

Also, the local trains (including rapid trains) between Shimo-imaichi and Tobu-Nikko/Kinugawa-onsen Stations on Tobu Raiway Lines. Between Kurihashi and Shimo-imaichi Stations, the pass may be used only on limited express trains that connect directly with Tobu Railway Lines.
  • Notes:
    • * Bus rapid transit.
    • * The JR East Pass (Tohoku area) may be used for Tobu Railway Lines whereas either the departing or destination is on a JR line.
    • The JR EAST Rail PASS (Tohoku area) is not valid for the Tokaido Shinkansen (between Tokyo and Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka) as they are operated by different rail companies.
    • GALA Yuzawa station is operated only in Winter and Spring.
    • The JR EAST Rail PASS (Tohoku area) is not valid for JR buses.

SEAT BOOKING

  • With the Pass, no additional fee is required when reserving seats. 
  • It is possible to make reservations for Shinkansen and limited express on the JR East Website before arriving in Japan.

  • Non-reserved Ordinary Class cars can be accessed freely. 
  • To access the platforms, show your pass to the JR East staff located at the platform gates. 
  • To reserve a seat locally, please ask the JR East staff at the the ticket office. 
  •  It is a personal pass. Please always carry your passport when using the Pass as station and train staff may check it.

REFUND

  • Refunds on exchange vouchers:
  • Refunds may be paid on exchange vouchers within one year of the date of issue, but only by the issuing vendor. The refund amount is the sales
    price minus the prescribed administration fee and postages fees.

  • Refunds on passes:
  • Within the validity period of the pass ticket described, unused pass ticket , can return back to the selling place.
    The refund amount will be the sales price in Hong Kong dollers, minus 10% plus HKD 100 per ticket.
    Please be aware that no refunds whatsoever will be made once the valid period of the pass has commenced.

  • No reissuing:
  • Exchange vouchers or passes will not be reissued under any circumstances, including loss, theft or damage, so please look after them carefully.

For example, if you purchase your pass or get it by exchange on April 1, you can show the pass at a station on any six days between April 1 and April 14 and it will be stamped as valid for use on that day, and you don’t have to worry about language barriers.
